The Winter Keep is the eleventh chapter of Skylanders: Swap Force, in which the Skylanders aid the Frost Elves in a massive snowball fight against the hostile forces trying to conquer the keep.

Description

Winter Keep is a wintry Frost Elf fortress, armed with catapults and warships, centered around the central statue of Whirlwind and the Illuminator. The level's architecture shimmers with rainbow colors when viewed at various angles, and the sky is a light blend of pink, purple, peach, and blue. Although much of the level is snowy and frozen, some puddles of melted water and tufts of dry grass suggest that spring warmth has begun to thaw the environment. Snowflakes drift sporadically from the sky, present in some areas but not in others. Halfway through the level, the sky and lighting darken as the Illuminator's eternal daylight is temporarily frozen over.

History

Years ago, the Winter Keep fell under a curse that shrouded the land in everlasting midnight. Luckily the Air Skylander, Whirlwind, came to the rescue and enchanted a crystal horn called the Illuminator, which granted eternal daylight to the Elves. This not only helped break the curse, but also protected Winter Keep and gave the elves courage during their fight against potential attacks. Of course, now the Elves never know when it's time for bed.

Trivia

  • The running gag in Winter Keep is that whenever a new enemy is introduced, they are always pelted with snowballs.
  • This is the first Chapter in which a specific Skylander plays a role in the story.
  • Sometimes when collecting snowmen, one of the frost elves will say "Once more unto the breach!", a famous line from the Shakespeare play, Henry V.
  • In the artwork displayed during this level's checkpoint loading screen, a shadowy elf shape can be seen mounted atop the concept art of a Bilzzard Baller. This could be evidence that Frost Elves were considered as Evilized Enemies at some point in development.
  • Early versions of Winter Keep reused music from Junkyard Isles. Junkyard Isles's theme still plays at the beginning of Swap Zone Challenges from Winter Keep when these challenges are loaded separately in the game menu.
