Hugo is a Mabu who is Master Eon's assistant. He is one of the main supporting characters in the series. He made his debut in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, using the Far-Viewer to help the Skylanders collect the Eternal Sources needed to repair the Core of Light.

Personality

Hugo is well-educated and is often found reading a book or doing research. He can be a bit negative at times, and quick to despair, but he will snap out of it and do what he thinks is necessary when things go wrong. He also has ovinophobia: the irrational fear of sheep and tries to convince others to distrust them on many occasions.

Story

The Machine of Doom

Hugo went to the Mabu Market after seeing that Eon's citadel larders were running low. While he was browsing the stalls, both Hugo and Flynn were attacked by flying sheep and escaped to warn the Skylanders. On Eon's Island, the Skylanders didn't believe Hugo and Flynn at first, but upon seeing the Mabu Market in a wreck and the flying sheep through use of Eon's portal, the great Portal Master sent Spyro, Gill Grunt, and Eruptor to find out what was going on.

Afterwards, Spyro told Hugo of an item Kaos was seeking called the Chattering Key, which the Mabu immediately went to searching for through the library. Hugo was able to find out through ancient records that the Key was an item created by the Arkeyans that unlocks an ancient Arkeyan artifact. The Mabu then handed the Skylanders a map to the Forest of Fear where the Key resided.

Spyro versus The Mega Monsters

Hugo reappeared in Spyro versus The Mega Monsters, trying to get the attention of Master Eon and the Skylanders present about the book he had in his possession the Warrior Librarians of the Eternal Archives were coming for. He was also terrified at the fact that they were mega-sized sheep terrorizing a part of Skylands Drill Sergeant where was sent to investigate.

Gill Grunt and the Curse of the Fish Master

Hugo was present with Spyro, Gill Grunt, Master Eon, and Lead Curator Wiggleworth to look into the Book of Power Kaos was after in the previous adventure. Upon learning that the evil Portal Master was after the Mask of Power, the Mabu stayed with Master Eon and Spyro to look into more of the Book of Power for details on the Mask fragments' whereabouts.

Lightning Rod Faces the Cyclops Queen

Hugo Double Trouble

Hugo and Double Trouble are disoriented from the air balloon crash.

Hugo went with Double Trouble, Flynn, and Warrior Librarian, Squirmgrub, on an air balloon to the Storm Titan Games to inform Master Eon of the location of the next segment to the Mask of Power. However, Lightning Rod's stray hammer crashed into the air balloon, causing it to spiral out of control. The passengers were saved from the crash by Drobot, and Hugo afterwards informed Eon of the next fragment to the Mask of Power.

Cynder Confronts the Weather Wizard

Hugo appears at the end of the story, partly informing Cynder, Hex and Zook about the kidnapping of Master Eon.

Trigger Happy Targets the Evil Kaos

On his way to place the last segment to the Mask of Power into the safe within Eon's Citadel, Hugo inadvertently led a disguised Goliath Drow to the safe. The Mabu was ambushed and forced to wear the Sapphire Amulet, which transformed Hugo into his worst fear: a sheep. The sheepified Hugo was then stuffed into the safe, while the Drow took the segments and left a note from Kaos. The Skylanders, Master Eon and Auric would later find Hugo inside the safe and realize what had happened. After the Mask of Power was destroyed, Master Eon turned both Kaos and Glumshanks into sheep as fitting retribution for turning Hugo into a sheep earlier.

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure

Hugo was present with Master Eon when Kaos and The Darkness approached, and was told by Eon to take his station to hide for cover. He managed to survive Kaos' initial attack and the destruction of the Core of Light by hiding under a rock that was his station. Hugo was later called by Eon to seek out the new Portal Master and the Skylanders on the Shattered Island, and later helped the Skylanders to rebuild the Core of Light by guiding them on their journey to find the Eternal Power Sources.

After Kaos was defeated, Master Eon gave the honor of banishing Kaos to Hugo, who eagerly accepted the offer and banished the evil Portal Master to Earth.

Skylanders: Giants

Informed by Master Eon, Hugo approached Flynn and Cali when they were at the docks checking out The Dread-Yacht, informing them of a new danger coming to Skylands and that a new Portal Master, the Skylanders, and Giants will help out. The Mabu soon waved goodbye to Flynn and Cali as they flew off to their adventure, remaining at the Ruins.

In the 3DS version, Hugo takes part in helping out the Skylanders in the fight against Captain Frightbeard by using a machine called the Portaltron 9000 to help summon the Skylanders into the game.

Skylanders: Swap Force

Hugo was communicating with Flynn while the pilot was vacationing in the Cloudbreak Islands, before Cali took over talking to Flynn. Hugo wasn't seen again for the remainder of the storyline.

In the 3DS version, Hugo went with Flynn and Cali to Boom Town to partake in the town's celebration of Flynn's 'heroism'. When Count Moneybone struck and kidnapped Cali, Hugo helped the Portal Master by summoning the Skylanders.

The Kaos Trap

Hugo comic

Hugo as seen in Skylanders Issue #3

Hugo served as the guide to the Skylanders Minis on their first day at the Skylander Academy. During the tour of the Heroic Challenge arena, Kaos, who disguised himself as Weeruptor, attacked Hugo and the Minis with his group of Trolls. Luckily, the experienced Skylander, Food Fight, repelled the attack and drove Kaos away, saving the future generation of Skylanders.

Skylanders: Trap Team

Hugo, along with Cali and Flynn, were excited about the grand opening of the Skylanders Academy, as there hasn't been a new Skylanders headquarters in ages. However, the ceremony was interrupted when a large fragment of Cloudcracker Prison landed in the nearby Soda Springs. Hugo wasn't seen again for the remainder of the storyline until the end of the game, when he was celebrating with the residents.

In the 3DS version of Trap Team, Hugo has a small role. While doing his research in the Eternal Archives, Hugo opened 'The Most Boring Book Ever' and fell into a deep sleep by the book's dark magic. This allowed the Dream Sheep and his army of nightmares to be released and spread havoc across Skylands. Hugo was locked within the Nightmare Wing of the Archives until the Skylanders were able to enter his dreams and save him. Afterwards, the Sleep Dragon used his powers to awaken Hugo after the Dream Sheep's defeat.

Return of the Dragon King

As Malefor defeated the nearby Skylanders that were summoned to protect the Skylanders Academy, Hugo expressed his worries to Master Eon. He doesn't appear again, but it is presumed that Hugo took refuge with the students deep inside the Academy when Malefor breached the school's last line of defense.

Skylanders: SuperChargers

Hugo was the one who brought the Skylanders back to Skylands after Kaos disconnected them and the Portal Master. After being freed by the Skylanders out of Count Moneybone's flagship, he remembered that Master Eon left a book for him which contained a holographic message explaining about the current situation and about the SuperChargers. After coming to the Academy, Hugo later appeared as one of the major supporting characters in the game. He later traveled to The Cloudbreather's Crag in order to gain information on Eon's whereabouts, and, after the old Portal Master was freed, he was very glad to have him back. Afterwards Hugo went with the Skylanders to look for information on the The Darkness in the Spell Punk Library, and he appeared to be very excited to meet Pomfrey after the Skylanders freed the famous historian.

Skylanders: Imaginators

Hugo returns in this game. After Kaos' Doomlander spread books from the library all over Skylands, the Skylander can bring them back to him for a reward.
